The Power of Mindfulness in
Improving Sexual Wellness

Mindfulness can play a crucial role

In this blog post, we explore the benefits of practicing mindfulness in improving sexual wellness. From reducing stress and anxiety to enhancing intimacy, mindfulness can play a crucial role in enhancing your overall sexual health.

Title

With the fast-paced nature of modern life,

stress and anxiety can often take a toll on our sexual health.

By engaging in mindfulness techniques, we can cultivate a sense of presence and awareness that can greatly improve our sexual experiences.

One of the key benefits of mindfulness is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety.

When we are in a constant state of stress, our bodies release cortisol, the stress hormone, which can have a negative impact on our sexual desire and performance.

By practicing mindfulness, we can quiet the mind and relax the body,

allowing us to be fully present in the moment and enjoy a more fulfilling sexual experience.

This is especially important for those of us who are experiencing menopause.

Throughout menopause, our relationship to our bodies is forever evolving and changing,

and with this comes new and different sensations and symptoms that we are observing.

This can drastically impact our ability to feel mindful, present and connected with ourselves and our partners.

Have you ever tried to mindfully connect to your body

while you are simultaneously noticing vaginal dryness?!

It can feel challenging to slow down and enjoy what self-intimacy can offer when we are swept away by thoughts, emotions or even unpleasant physical sensations.

By strengthening our mindfulness practice (and finding the best vaginal moisturizer for menopause dryness) we are able to surrender into the bliss of sex and intimacy without distraction.

Additionally, mindfulness can enhance intimacy with our partners.

By being fully present during sexual encounters,

we can deepen our connection with our partner and enhance our emotional and physical intimacy.

As an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist, I have been
deeply influenced by the work of Lori Brotto.

Not only is she a fellow Canadian, but she is an expert in women's sexual health.

Her work surrounding mindfulness and sexual wellness has been profound.

She shares the ways that many of us- women in particular, have become quite

disconnected from our bodies and sexual experiencing as a whole.

This lack of presence and connection can often result in sexual challenges- such as low desire, aversion to touch, hyper-vigilance, and arousal & orgasm difficulties.

"Particularly for women, the body might be responding to touch with signs of arousal,

but the mind is not registering the arousal because it is elsewhere.

Mindfulness is about unifying the mind and the body response, which heightens desire and makes for a much more satisfying encounter." - Lori Brotto

Mindfulness allows us to become more present and connected in our minds and bodies.

Incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine can be as simple as taking a few moments each day to breathe deeply and focus on the present moment.

Practicing mindfulness meditation or yoga can also be effective ways to cultivate mindfulness and enhance your sexual wellness. Overall, the power of mindfulness in improving sexual wellness cannot be overstated.

By reducing stress and anxiety, enhancing intimacy, and increasing self-awareness,

mindfulness can greatly enhance your overall sexual health and lead to a more

fulfilling and satisfying sex life.
